With a stagnant powerbase and a lost population, our city could be devoured by the desire to have, rather than to be. The seeking of status can drive away the opportunities that maybe in our minds, and should be ours, but the “should have been” of our concern is not drift but demanding dominance without earning it. Charlotte has to be a city that is known for the hard working, and dedicated people that made it that because greatness is not a given, but forgoing this forgets what is true and losses its value as shown in The Beat Goes On.
