The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County will create a Workforce Development Center at its Main Library in 2009-2010 to respond in part to our community’s increasing demand for job/career related resources, accessible computer technology and personal support. Success indicators will include the recruitment, training, and utilization of volunteers who can provide or support the Library’s free skills seminar classes, as well as one-on-one assistance for resume writing, interview skills, language skills and more. A focus on retooling or developing new work skills will pair volunteers, staff and library users working side-by-side to getting individuals back into employment. This project meets one of the Library’s five strategic outcome goals: to contribute to the economic health, cultural and social capital of our community.
